VIRGINIA MADRID - Asperger syndrome

Asperger syndrome is something that can have any child today. It is also possible that we face a case of these during our years as teachers. These children have difficulties relating with others, often are not aware of the feelings of others, have difficulties to bring the pace of conversation, can be awkward in some sports, etc. In a world that is socially, suffering from Asperger's can become a big problem, but it becomes a problem more severe when not supported by family, teachers, friends, ultimately the people closest.
As teachers, we have an important role against these cases. In the video we saw in class, a child says that his teacher called him silly, stupid, etc. If the teacher is the first that not accept or support his student, others won't respect the children an in this way will be  much complicated the situation.

Firstly, the teacher should know how to deal with this situation, must be trained. After that, I would put in contact with parents to know how face the situation and for which they are involved. Once you get to know the history or at least have some idea of where you start, I would try to treat the child in the same way as others. On many occasions we ourselves promote inequalities. It is clear that not be treated a child with problems as well as another that does not have them, but other actions can be taken so that differences are not so notable. On this basis, the child will begin to feel more integrated and not feel "weird" in class. There are ways to manipulate the physical aspects of the classroom and ways to locate the student with syndrome in the classroom so that he feel more comfortable without sacrificing the plans for class. A strategy for teachers may be assigned "buddy" companion between classmates. In this way, the student with Asperger's Syndrome will have a friend who listens to it and report any potential conflict with other students. Educators must always ask the student with Asperger's syndrome and/or their parents on this subject to be sure that the student feels comfortable in class.

We have to know that we should have to have more patience with that student, be more aware of it, send other types of tasks if it is necessary, repeat things, help the children to establish relationships with others, etc., but at no time offend him or make him feel inferior.
It is a good idea the integration activities in which children attempt to communicate with others, can be expressing their feelings, intendar give your opinion... But on many occasions the problem not only with the professor, is with the other students. Bullying is something that today is very common among children. It is possible that children who suffer from this syndrome also suffer bullying by peers. Here also the teacher plays a fundamental role. We have to know that children with these problems are more likely to suffer attacks from their companions so certain measure can be taken or if any indication is to act quickly. As I have said earlier, it is essential that the teacher is that treat this child with total normality so other colleagues see that it is a "normal" child. Despite this, also I think that it would be advisable to inform other students about this disease so that they see that it is something normal that can happen to many people and therefore does not have to be treated differently from the others.

We should try to create a comfortable atmosphere, in which all are equally valued and accepted, has good relations, help each other when they need it and to learn that in spite of the difficulties that may have each, finally and after we are all people and live with each other, so everything will be easier if we do things well from the beginning.
Finally mention parents, they also play an important role. The teacher cannot be only that charge of the child does not have problems at school. After school, the boy who suffers from this syndrome has a world ahead, but is no longer the professor to defend him, to understand him or to help him. So parents also have to take another attitude with their child, try to understand he, help he to relate, help to express their feelings, etc.

I've done this reflection with my own opinions and with the help of this guide I found on the internet that has very interesting information.
